Mosaic Workshop - week 3

It's week 3 of the project at Westborough School. Here you can see some of the wonderful designs emerging.

In the middle Zareen Mirza is working on her piece 'Mosque' she says 'I like how Mosaics are done, I saw some in the Library at the school and asked how they were done, that's when Alison told me about the workshops Community Mosaics East were running with the Transformation Fund. Now I've seen how its done, I'd like to do more of it. I've learnt how to cut it, although I had done some before at home.'

Day One

Day one, week 1.

First session - meeting students, introducing project aspirations and getting to know the school's existing mosaics.

We discussed ideas about contrast and patterns.
We discussed the word for pattern in the different languages from members of the group.

Teera (sp).

Here are some ideas of what some of the students would like to make. please see photos. We have also had a good look and feel of some of the tiles/tesserrae and found objects that can be used.

There is a lovely energy among the group and we feel some wonderful mosaics are going to be created.
